With picturesque Sylvan and Stockade lakes receiving most of the attention, and luckily for those who know about it, Center Lake can be often overlooked. Which of course means those that do discover it will discover a serene mountain lake that at times may appear like they have all to themselves.
Nestled amongst the Ponderosa pines in Custer State Park, this great lake located off of Playhouse Road between Needles Highway (SD 87) and Iron Mountain Road (US 16A) has a great swimming beach, 71-site campground, boating (non-wake) and fishing. The Center Lake Campground is set up for smaller RV's and tents and a non-profit youth camping area is located in the day-use area on the east side.
