The first Meeker at Meeker Ranch was Frank Cunningham Meeker, a member of the Pony Express, who is said to have routinely ridden the 100 miles between Custer and Hat Creek, Wyo.
Today, the Black Hills Preservation Trust, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, is helping to preserve the picturesque ranch buildings and surrounding meadows. The site is a favorite subject of noted Hill City artist Jon Crane.
